Andrea Vauchez & Benjamin Tissier
Estate / Domaine: Domaine des Crais
Location: Leynes, on the border of Mâconnais & Beaujolais, France
Background & Partnership
Benjamin Tissier represents the fourth generation of the Tissier wine family, taking leadership of Domaine des Crais in 2019. Andrea Vauchez, his partner, joined him in shaping a fresh vision for the estate — blending tradition and innovation while guiding the domaine’s transition toward organic and ecological viticulture.
Vineyard Holdings & Terroir
The domaine covers approximately 5.5 hectares of vines and grasslands, situated at the crossroads of the Mâconnais and Beaujolais.
Their location allows them to craft wines that combine the tension and minerality of the Mâconnais with the vibrant fruit and energy of Beaujolais.
Soils are diverse, with variations in slope, exposure, and composition, lending distinct character to each parcel.
Viticulture & Farming Philosophy
From the beginning of their partnership, Benjamin and Andrea began converting the domaine to organic farming, integrating elements of biodynamic agriculture, soil preservation, and biodiversity.
They favor low-intervention viticulture — no synthetic inputs, cover crops, light soil work, and careful observation of natural rhythms.
Their philosophy emphasizes patience, observation, and respect for living ecosystems: “take the time to understand before acting.”
Winemaking Approach & Techniques
Fermentations are conducted spontaneously with native yeasts, using minimal manipulation and preserving the natural balance of the fruit.
Additives are kept to an absolute minimum, with little or no sulfur used in many cuvées.
The wines are unfined and unfiltered, to retain purity and energy.
Élevage is carefully managed to balance freshness and texture — for example, their white wines often mature for extended periods in both barrel and tank on fine lees.
Signature Wines & Highlights
Aiôn — Chardonnay aged for 24 months (9 months in barrel, 15 in tank); layered, mineral, and textural.
Saveurs du Temps — Gamay from Beaujolais Leynes; bright, pure, and delicately structured.
Other cuvées include Saint-Véran, Beaujolais-Leynes, and Mâcon.
Vision & Values
Benjamin and Andrea aim to honor family heritage while evolving toward a fully regenerative and ecological model of viticulture.
They blend craftsmanship and intuition, making wines that express terroir, time, and authenticity. Their work embodies curiosity, humility, and a deep respect for the life of the soil.
