Celler Sanromà

Celler Sanromà is a family-run, artisanal winery located in the village of Vila-rodona, in the Tarragona province of Catalonia, Spain. The estate represents a continuation and transformation of a four-generation tradition of grape growing: for years, the family sold grapes in bulk — but when the current generation’s enologist completed studies, they decided to create wines from their own vineyards under a clear philosophy: to “bottle a landscape” and express the terroir of their land in every bottle.

Origins & Philosophy

Though the vineyards had been cultivated for decades, the shift to winemaking under the Celler Sanromà name is relatively recent. The motivation was to move beyond grape selling and to craft wines that encapsulate the region’s character. The guiding principle is terroir-driven wine: wines that reflect the soils, climate, and heritage of Vila-rodona, handled with care, respect, and minimal intervention.

All grapes come from the family’s own vineyards, planted on stony, calcareous soils shaped by Mediterranean climate influences — a terrain that deeply influences the wines’ personality. Farming is carried out under ecological / organic practices and emphasizes hand harvesting to control quality from vine to bottle. The goal is not large-scale production, but expression and sense of place.

Wines & Style

The winery produces a small number of wines — often monovarietal — showcasing local grape varieties and regional identity. Among their core repertoire:

• A red wine made 100% from local variety Ull de Llebre (a native name for Tempranillo in Catalonia), aged in a mix of American and French oak barrels.

• A white wine from 100% Macabeu, matured “sur lies” (on its lees), giving freshness and depth.

• A rosé made 100% from Trepat, unaged, simple and vibrant.

These wines reflect Celler Sanromà’s dedication to authenticity: young, fresh, expressive and rooted in terroir, avoiding heavy manipulation or over-processing.
