Claus Preisinger
Location: Gols, Neusiedlersee, Burgenland, Austria
Winery Founded: 2002 (first wine under own label in 2000)
🌱 Philosophy & Practices
Claus Preisinger farms nearly 20 hectares spread across more than 60 small parcels around Lake Neusiedl. He follows organic and biodynamic principles and has been certified by Respekt Biodyn since 2006. His approach emphasizes minimal intervention: early harvesting for freshness, indigenous yeast fermentations, no fining or filtration, and minimal or no added sulfur.
In the cellar, he works with a mix of vessels—amphorae, concrete eggs, stainless steel, and large old barrels—to allow each wine to express its origin and energy.
“My wines are a reflection of nature. I do not intervene artificially…”
🌍 Terroir & Varieties
Claus’s vineyards sit on a mosaic of sandy loam, limestone, schist, and quartz. The region’s hot days, cool nights, and lake-influenced microclimate create ideal conditions for both reds and whites.
He works with traditional Austrian grapes like Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and St. Laurent, along with Pinot Noir, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Weißburgunder, and Scheurebe.
🍷 Signature Wines & Style
Claus is known for his energetic, pure, and sometimes playful wines that highlight Burgenland’s terroir.
Highlights include:
Bonsai: A Blaufränkisch from ultra-high-density, low-yield vines planted close to the ground.
Puszta Libre: A vibrant, chillable red blend of Zweigelt and St. Laurent—bright, juicy, and endlessly drinkable.
Dope, Fruitloops, and KalkundKiesel Weiss: Experimental whites and blends fermented in amphora or concrete.
Pinot Noir: Elegant, wild, and layered with bright red fruit and refined texture.
All of his wines reflect a distinctive aesthetic: natural, alive, and deeply personal.
🧠 Character & Vision
Claus Preisinger is one of Austria’s leading voices in the natural wine world. Bold yet grounded, he balances artistic freedom with thoughtful precision. His winery—an award-winning, minimalist structure overlooking Lake Neusiedl—mirrors his winemaking ethos: clean lines, integrity, and harmony with nature.
