Histoire

At eighteen, Bernard announced he would take the reins—and the schist.

The Bohn family has been winegrowing for over three centuries in Reichsfeld, a small village at the far end of the valley where, until recently, the local Alsatian dialect was still more common than French. The domaine sits at the edge of the Vosges foothills, sheltered by the Ungersberg.

While still in high school at the Jesuit boarding school, Bernard decided to leave and enroll in the local winemaking program instead. At age 18, with the bare minimum certification in hand, he returned home and announced to his father that he would take over the winery.

We combined 'Arthur' and 'Nature' to create 'Par Nathur'—tolerated by the AOC, though not necessarily approved.

His vision was the Schieferberg—a backbreaking steep slope of nearly pure Precambrian schist where the family had built a chapel generations ago. Through trades, purchases, and inheritance, Bernard cobbled together five hectares of contiguous old vines on this unique terroir, now farmed with his son Arthur.

When the AOC refused their label "Par Nature" (by nature), they combined Arthur and Nature to create Par Nathur—a range vinified entirely without added SO₂. Today, they farm nine hectares across schist and sandstone, using Fukuoka-inspired methods: no plowing, cover crops coexist with vines, and everything is done by hand.

Savoir-Faire
Terroir

Two hillsides, two terroirs—schist and sandstone.

Schieferberg

Schiste

The only outcrop of schist terroir in Alsace, composed of Precambrian shale and slate. Planted to Riesling and Pinot Gris, these 60+ year old vines produce wines of striking minerality and aging potential. The stones accumulate heat during the day and release it at night.

Bernardvillé

Grès

The facing hillside in Bernardvillé offers Precambrian sandstone. Here grow Sylvaner, Muscat, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir. Since the Middle Ages, these sandstone hills have been reputed for excellent red wines.

330-400m

Altitude

High altitude and continental climate, sheltered from rain by the Vosges foothills. Considered prime location since the 12th century by the Comtes of Andlau and the Cistercian monks who first planted these slopes.

Fukuoka

Méthode

No plowing, no tilling. Cover crops coexist with vines to create natural balance. Certified organic (Ecocert) and practicing biodynamic. Native yeasts only, minimal intervention, and patience—wines are held back until ready.

60+ Ans

Vieilles Vignes

Average vine age exceeds 60 years, with some parcels exceeding 100 years. These old vines produce concentrated fruit with deep root systems drilling into the fractured schist and sandstone.

33

Cuvées

A dizzying array of wines divided into two camps: the "typical" Alsatian wines (minimal SO₂) and the Par Nathur range (zero added sulfur, unfiltered). From Crémant aged 12 years on lees to field-blend orange wines.

Vins

Two philosophies, one terroir—Par Nathur and the classic range.

Riesling • Schieferberg

Schieferberg

From the heart of the schist lieu-dit in Cru Oberhagel. The oldest vines (60+ years) produce this flagship wine. Aged 16 months on lees in barrel, often held back 6+ years before release. Dry, evolved, with schist minerality and remarkable aging potential.

100% Riesling • 16 months lees • 0.5g/l SO₂ • Unfiltered
Pinot Gris • Schieferberg

Pinot Gris Schieferberg

Bernard believes in the supremacy of schist for white varieties. This Pinot Gris undergoes extended aging before release, developing texture and depth. Rich and full-bodied with the distinctive smoky, stony character of the blue schist.

Pinot Gris • Extended aging • Schist terroir • Grand Cru quality
Par Nathur
Riesling/Pinot Gris • Zéro

Schieferberg Zéro

No added SO₂, unfiltered. A 50/50 blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris from the schist. The Par Nathur expression of the flagship terroir—purer, wilder, and completely sans soufre. Fermented with native yeasts only.

50/50 Blend • Zero SO₂ • Unfiltered • Native yeasts
Blanc • Sylvaner/Riesling

En Vrac

A non-vintage solera-style blend of Riesling and Sylvaner from the sandstone terroir. Aged two years in foudres, then bottled à l'ancienne. Fresh, approachable, and representing the daily drinking tradition of Alsace.

NV Blend • 2 years foudre • Sandstone terroir • À l'ancienne
Rouge • Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir Réserve

From 40-year-old vines on Precambrian sandstone. A range from light-bodied expressions to fuller, barrel-aged wines. The sandstone hills of Bernardvillé have produced renowned reds since the Middle Ages. Pepper, dark fruit, and elegance.

Le Coup de Jus

Whole cluster Pinot Noir infused in Riesling and Pinot Gris juice. A vin de soif—light, juicy, and chock full of lively fruit. The perfect expression of natural winemaking: field blend, carbonic maceration, zero sulfur.

Orange • Macération

L'Indigène

An orange wine field blend from the Par Nathur range. Indigenous varieties co-fermented on skins. Textural, with dried apricot, wild herbs, and the unmistakable imprint of the schist. Unfiltered, unfined, and utterly alive.

Skin contact • Field blend • Orange • Zero SO₂
Crémant • Millésimé

Crémant d'Alsace Vintage

Not your typical Crémant. Aged for 12 years on the lees before disgorgement—extraordinary depth and autolytic character. A testament to the Bohn philosophy: patience, terroir, and time. Serious, structured, and age-worthy bubbles.

12 years lees • Vintage • Traditional method • Extra brut
Riesling • Hors d'Âge

Riesling Hors d'Âge

A one-off blend of eight barrels from eight vintages (1997-2015). The "out of age" Riesling represents Bernard's endless curiosity and the cellar's surprises. A vertical horizontal—time collapsed into a single bottle.

8 vintages • 1997-2015 • Solera • Rare
