Domaine de la Renardière

Domaine de la Renardière is a respected family-run wine estate based in Pupillin, within the Arbois-Pupillin appellation of France’s Jura region. The domaine is known for producing organic, terroir-driven wines that balance tradition, precision, and a deep respect for place.

🌱 History & People

The estate was founded in 1990 by Jean-Michel Petit and his wife Laurence, building on vineyards that had been cultivated by earlier generations of the family in Pupillin. From the outset, their work focused on careful vineyard stewardship and an intimate understanding of Jura terroirs.

In 2012, Domaine de la Renardière achieved organic certification, formalizing a long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible farming. Today, the next generation is represented by their son Léo Petit, who is increasingly involved in the domaine while bringing fresh energy and ideas alongside tradition.

🍇 Vineyards & Terroir

The domaine farms approximately 7.5 hectares of vineyards, many planted on red marl soils that are particularly well suited to Jura grape varieties. Each parcel is tended and vinified separately to preserve its unique expression.

The estate grows all of the classic Jura varieties:

  • Ploussard (Poulsard)

  • Trousseau

  • Pinot Noir

  • Chardonnay

  • Savagnin

Production is roughly balanced between red and white wines.

🍷 Winemaking Philosophy

Winemaking at Domaine de la Renardière is low-intervention and site-focused. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, sulphur is used sparingly, and élevage is adapted to each wine, with a preference for large foudresand neutral barrels to avoid masking terroir.

Both ouillé (topped-up) and oxidative Jura styles are produced, allowing the domaine to express the full spectrum of regional tradition.

🍾 Style & Reputation

The wines are known for their clarity, freshness, and textural depth:

  • Reds are aromatic and elegant, especially the domaine’s Ploussard and Trousseau

  • Whites range from precise, mineral Chardonnay to complex Savagnin expressions

  • Traditional Jura wines such as Vin Jaune are produced in select vintages
