Krenn49 (also known as Weinhof Krenn 49) is a progressive organic winery and wine bistro located in Edelsbach bei Feldbach in the Vulkanland Steiermark (Styrian Volcanic Land) region of Austria. Managed by Josef and Barbara Krenn, the estate is committed to farming and winemaking that respects the unique volcanic and diverse terroir of Eastern Styria.

🌿 Bio-Philosophy

Krenn49 is defined by its deep commitment to organic and natural methods, prioritizing health, biodiversity, and authenticity:

• Organic Certification: The winery officially converted to certified organic viticulture (AT-BIO-402) in 2019, following a long transition period that began when Josef took over responsibility for the vines around 2007. They practice organic farming across all their vineyards, which surround the estate.

• Natural Wine Approach: In the cellar, the Krenns practice minimal intervention. Their wines are fermented with natural (indigenous) yeasts, are typically unfined, and receive only a small amount of sulfur before bottling.

• Biodiversity: They cultivate the Styrian variety by growing classic varieties alongside new, disease-resistant PIWI varieties (e.g., Muscaris and Souvignier gris) to strengthen the vines naturally. They also use homemade herbal extracts to support vine health.

Krenn49 produces a diverse and creative portfolio that includes traditional Styrian wines and modern natural styles:

• Classic Styrian Varieties: They cultivate classics like Welschriesling, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Sauvignon Blanc, and Zweigelt.

• Natural & Experimental: They offer a popular range of natural wines, including:

  • Pet-Nats (naturally sparkling) from varieties like Muscaris and Welschriesling.

  • Orange Wines (skin-contact whites) like 'AURORA' (a blend of Souvignier gris and Welschriesling aged in large oak barrels).

  • The 'YOKO' line, which is an easy-drinking natural wine style.

• Beyond Wine: The estate also produces other specialty products, including BIO Kräuter Wermut (Organic Herb Vermouth) and BIO Verjus.
