Asador Etxebarri leads a list made for curious diners

The Basque grill takes the No. 1 spot, Gaggan and Alchemist complete the podium, and Bangkok emerges as the ranking’s strongest city.

The 2026 edition of The 50 Best Restaurants was revealed in Lima on 4 November, closing with a familiar celebration of fire, produce and precision. Bittor Arginzoniz’s Asador Etxebarri, in Atxondo, Spain, occupies the summit; Gaggan Anand’s Bangkok restaurant follows at No. 2, with Copenhagen’s Alchemist at No. 3.

Beyond the podium, the list reads like a map of contemporary dining. Bangkok contributes five restaurants, while Copenhagen and Lima each place three. Asia’s strength runs from modern Korean kitchens in Seoul to progressive Indian cooking in Bangkok and Mumbai, alongside enduring destinations in Spain, Italy and France.
