Stella di Lemmen

Stella di Lemmen is an organic and biodynamic vineyard and farm project founded in 2015. It’s perched on a small plateau overlooking the Ligurian Sea, within the Cinque Terre National Park, in Italy.

The site was once abandoned for decades and has been restored with an emphasis on ecology, terracing, and traditional craftsmanship.

Origins & Vision

  • The project centers on Lemmen, an ancient rural settlement above Riomaggiore, which had been left untended for more than 50 years and partly damaged by fire.

  • Lucia, together with Diego, discovered the site in 2014 and committed to reviving it — restoring terraces, rebuilding dry stone walls, replanting vines and trees, and reintroducing biodiversity.

  • The ethos is one of cooperation with nature rather than domination: avoiding chemical fertilizers and weedkillers, promoting biodiversity, and using regenerative agricultural practices.

Vineyard & Practices

  • The vineyards are terraced on steep slopes, around 350–400 meters above sea level, with southwest exposure and strong influence from the nearby sea.

  • Varieties cultivated are predominantly local white grapes: Vermentino, Bosco, and Albarola, with some experimentation in reds.

  • The vineyard is managed biodynamically, with minimal intervention; most work is done by hand, from rebuilding terraces to harvesting. Natural treatments are used, and no synthetic chemicals are employed.

Wines & Style

  • The wines are designed to capture the essence of place: freshness, brightness, mineral tones, and a marked sea influence.

  • Their first white wine, Limen, reflects this philosophy — combining local varieties and the unique exposure of the vineyard to create a wine of lightness, clarity, and character.

Character & Values

  • Stella di Lemmen is a small-scale, hands-on, family-run project. Its foundation is recovery — not just of vineyards, but of old rural infrastructure, landscape, flora, and fauna.

  • Biodiversity is central: alongside vines, the estate includes olive trees, fruit trees, herbs, flowers, bees, free-ranging hens, and a mosaic of plants that foster ecosystem health.

  • The project also opens its doors to visitors, offering tastings, vineyard walks, and immersive experiences to share the story of the land, the work, and the terroir.
