BadaluccoIn Perpetuum
Five generations of Marsala mastery. The solera method, the sea air of western Sicily, and the patient oxidation of time in ancient oak. From Grillo grapes to liquid amber.
Marsala
From English merchants to Sicilian cellars—three centuries of tradition.
The Badalucco family began producing Marsala in 1850, when the fortified wine tradition was already well established by English merchants like Woodhouse and Ingham. But where the English saw export opportunity, the Badaluccos saw patrimonio—a liquid heritage to be guarded.
While industrial producers modernized, Badalucco maintained the solera system—the fractional blending method where young wines are gradually mixed with old, creating a continuous thread of history in every bottle. Our in perpetuum reserves contain traces of wine over 100 years old.
Today, the fifth generation tends 50 hectares of Grillo, Catarratto, and Inzolia in the province of Trapani. We remain one of the few producers crafting Vergine and Stravecchio Marsala—the highest classifications, aged minimum 5 to 10 years in oak, with no additions except grape must or alcohol.
In Perpetuum
Sicilia
The Solera System—fractional blending through time.
Our in perpetuum method involves multiple levels of oak casks (botte), where wine is fractionally blended over years. The youngest wines are added to the top, slowly working their way down to the solera level—the bottom casks containing the oldest liquid, from which we bottle.

Badalucco Vergine Riserva
The pinnacle. 10+ years in solera, no caramel, no cooked must—only Grillo grapes and alcohol. Deep amber with tobacco, dried fig, and sea salt notes. The oxidative aging creates a dry, complex aperitivo or companion to aged cheese.
Ambra Secco
Amber Marsala with addition of mosto cotto (cooked must) for color and sweetness. Aged 5 years in oak. Notes of caramel, vanilla, and dried apricot. The classic "secco" style—technically dry but with perceptible sweetness from the grape concentrate.
Dolce Naturale
For desserts and meditation. Sweet Marsala made with addition of grape must. Rich hazelnut, honey, and dried fruit character. Traditionally paired with cannoli, cassata, or sharp cheeses like Pecorino Siciliano. Serve slightly chilled.
Riserva Navale
Our rarest bottling. Minimum 20 years in the solera system, created to honor the naval tradition of Marsala (Nelson's fleet carried similar wines). Mahogany color, intense walnut and rancio character. Only 500 bottles produced annually.
Grillo di Trapani
Before fortification, there is the grape. Unfortified Grillo from our best vineyards—crisp, saline, with lemon blossom and almond notes. A fresh counterpoint to our oxidative wines, showing the raw material that becomes Marsala.
Moscato di Pantelleria
From the volcanic island of Pantelleria. Air-dried Zibibbo grapes create a passito of extraordinary intensity. Orange peel, apricot jam, and volcanic minerality. A cousin to Marsala in style but purely sweet and unfortified.
Western Sicily—sea, wind, and limestone.
Mare di Sicilia
The Mediterranean climate of the Trapani coast—hot days, cool sea breezes. The salt air penetrates our cellars, contributing to the saline minerality that defines great Marsala. Proximity to the sea moderates temperatures and prevents extreme heat.
Grillo & Co.
We cultivate Grillo (the prime Marsala grape), Catarratto, and Inzolia on limestone-rich soils. These white varieties provide the high acidity necessary for balanced fortified wine—structure to survive decades of aging.
Botte Grande
Our cellars contain 300+ large oak casks (botti), some over 150 years old. Unlike small barrels, these large vessels allow slow, gentle oxidation without excessive wood influence. The thick staves breathe, allowing the wine to evolve.
