Natural wine temple Gaggan Anand named Asia’s best restaurant 2025.
A Visionary Approach to Gastronomy and Wine
Renowned chef Gaggan Anand has once again made history by securing the title of Best Restaurant in Asia 2025. His eponymous restaurant, Gaggan, located in Bangkok, has now won this prestigious award for the fifth time, solidifying its position as a global culinary icon.
Since opening his first restaurant in 2010, Anand has established himself as a pioneer, blending progressive cuisine with Indian influences in an avant-garde tasting menu concept. With two Michelin stars and the top spot on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list by S.Pellegrino, Gaggan continues to push the boundaries of fine dining.
Beyond food, Anand has embraced the world of natural wine, a growing trend among the world’s best restaurants. In collaboration with Marko Kovac, a natural wine marketer and the founder of Karakterre, he launched a relaxed natural wine bar called Wet, adjacent to his flagship restaurant in Bangkok. Unfortunately, Wet has since closed, but its impact on the city's wine scene remains significant.
Natural Wine: A Growing Presence in Fine Dining
The rise of natural wine on top restaurant wine lists is no coincidence. Leading chefs see a direct connection between their commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing in the kitchen and the like-minded farming and winemaking practices behind natural wine.
At Gaggan, Vladimir Kojic, the restaurant’s sommelier, specializes in Austrian and Eastern European wines. Growing up in the Balkans, Kojic was deeply influenced by the Styrian Gang of Four—Sepp Muster, Ewald Tscheppe, Andreas Tscheppe, and Franz Strohmeier—who are among the pioneers of natural winemaking in Austria.
Gaggan’s Expanding Culinary Empire
Beyond his flagship restaurant, Gaggan Anand is also an investor in Sühring, a modern German restaurant in Bangkok that ranks No.7 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list. His other ventures include Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh, a Mexican-Indian fusion restaurant with locations in Bangkok and Singapore, which has secured the No.99 spot on the extended Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list.
With his continued success, both in gastronomy and his advocacy for natural wine, Gaggan Anand remains one of the most influential chefs in the world today.
