Gli Archi
is a small, family-run organic winery in the Marche region of Italy. It's an artisanal project with a strong commitment to natural, low-intervention winemaking.
History and Location
Location: The winery is located in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the southern part of the Marche region. The vineyards are situated on hills with a unique microclimate influenced by both the Adriatic Sea and the Sibilline Mountains.
The Founders: Gli Archi is a project of the Marincioni family. The name "Gli Archi" means "The Arches," which refers to the family's historic house with its traditional arches. The family has a deep connection to the land and is dedicated to preserving its unique terroir.
Winemaking Philosophy
Gli Archi's philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for the land and a hands-off approach in the cellar.
Organic Farming: The vineyards are farmed organically. The family avoids the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers, focusing on a healthy, biodiverse ecosystem.
Indigenous Grapes: The winery champions the indigenous grapes of the Marche region, including Pecorino, a native white grape known for its character and aging potential. They also work with Montepulciano, the key red grape of the area.
Minimal Intervention: In the cellar, their approach is to guide the wine with as little intervention as possible.
Spontaneous Fermentation: All wines are fermented using indigenous, or wild, yeasts.
Extended Skin Contact: For their white wines, they use a period of skin maceration, a traditional practice that adds color, texture, and complexity.
No Fining or Filtration: The wines are unfined and unfiltered, preserving their natural character and sometimes a slight cloudiness.
Minimal Sulfur: The use of sulfur is kept to a minimum or is not used at all.
