Viñas Mora

Origins & Philosophy

Viñas Mora, meaning “wines by the sea”, is based near Primošten, a historic area along Croatia’s Adriatic coast, known for its dramatic, UNESCO-nominated vineyard landscapes.
The winery was founded with a clear mission: to honor and preserve indigenous Dalmatian grape varieties—especially Babić—and to showcase the unique coastal terroir through expressive, natural wines.

Their philosophy is deeply rooted in tradition and minimal intervention, crafting wines that reflect the rugged limestone soils, sea breeze, and centuries-old viticulture of the region.

Vineyards & Farming Practices

  • All vineyards are organically or biodynamically farmed, with no synthetic chemicals used.

  • Vines are dry-farmed, relying only on natural rainfall, which concentrates flavor and enhances the saline, mineral qualities of the wines.

  • Harvesting is done entirely by hand, preserving the integrity of the grapes and the surrounding ecosystem.

The old bush vines, many of them decades old, are planted in the iconic stone-walled plots that define Primošten’s landscape.

Winemaking Approach

Viñas Mora produces approximately 60,000 bottles per year, striking a balance between artisanal craftsmanship and meaningful production scale.
The focus is on low-intervention winemaking, allowing each wine to express its terroir without manipulation.

Key practices include:

  • Spontaneous fermentation with wild, native yeasts.

  • Careful, measured maceration, adapted to the style of each wine.

  • Aging in used 500-liter barrels to avoid dominant oak flavors and maintain purity of fruit.

For example:

  • Wines like Andreisis undergo a split fermentation, with half macerated for just one day and the other half for four days, creating balance and finesse.

  • Kaamen II, made from old bush-vine fruit, receives a 4–5 day maceration, resulting in greater depth and structure.

Grape Varieties

  • Red wines: Primarily Babić, a signature coastal grape, along with other local varieties such as Plavina and Lasina.

  • White wines: Indigenous grapes like Debit and Maraština, reflecting the heritage of Dalmatia.

These varieties thrive in the challenging, rocky soils, producing wines with natural acidity, salinity, and vibrant freshness.

Signature Wines

Andreisis

  • A delicate red crafted through a combination of short and slightly longer macerations.

  • Aged in used 500 L barrels for subtle structure and texture.

  • Elegant, fresh, and approachable with a focus on finesse.

Kaamen II

  • Made from old bush vines in a prime vineyard site.

  • 4–5 days of maceration provide depth, complexity, and intensity.

  • A more powerful, age-worthy expression of Babić.

Barbba

  • The winery’s “village-level” wine, blending Babić and other regional grapes.

  • Captures the pure essence of Primošten’s rocky, coastal terroir.

  • Bright, saline, and versatile at the table.
