The Natural Coast celebrates wineries and winegrowers throughout California's Central Coast who practice environmentally beneficial viticulture, low-impact winemaking, and socially conscientious business. It's organized by the team behind Satellite, a natural wine shop/restaurant in Santa Barbara.
Strict Winery Requirements
All participating producers must meet these standards (non-negotiable—breaking rules results in a 3-year ban):
Majority of fruit from Central Coast counties (LA, Ventura, SB, SLO, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo)
Organically farmed minimum (certified or practicing; no synthetic pesticides)
Native fermentation only (spontaneous or pied-de-cuve)
No sterile filtration, no fining
Max total SO₂ below 70 ppm (only allowed additive)
No techno-wizardry (reverse osmosis, cryo-extraction, spinning cone, etc.)
