Italian Wine Exports fall 3.8%
According to Istat data on Italian wine exports (updated May 2025), the first four months of the year show a slight overall decline. Export value fell by 0.82%, reaching €3.2 billion, while export volume dropped by 3.8%, totaling 852.3 million liters.
The United States and Canada continue to post positive results, despite U.S. tariffs (10% until early August, now 15%). In contrast, Russia’s collapse and weaker demand in major European markets (Germany, UK) and Asia (China, Japan) drove the overall decline.
United States: leader in value at €838.7M (+5.7%), volumes steady at ~150M liters.
Germany: €478.8M (-1.2%) with 198.5M liters (-5.8%).
United Kingdom: €298.1M (-5.9%) and 94.7M liters (-4.3%).
Switzerland: stable at €164.7M (+0.2%).
Canada: sharp growth, €159.3M (+9.8%) and 28.1M liters (+3.5%).
France: €130.9M (+2.1%).
Netherlands: €104.8M (+1.8%).
Belgium: €90.6M (+2.3%).
Sweden: €80.4M (-1.5%).
Austria: €62.7M (-2.5%).
Russia: collapsed to €61.2M (-45.3%).
Japan: €70.1M (-10.9%).
China: €28.9M (-21.1%).
Australia: €28.2M (+7%), overtaking South Korea (€22M, -1.8%).
Brazil: €14.6M (+8.7%).
For sparkling wines, after years of steady growth, exports showed a slight contraction: -1% in value (€875.8M) and -0.9% in volume (206M liters).
