Le chemin du vignoble Valais
Branson to Saillon
The Chemin du vignoble in the Valais could possible be one of if not the most spectacular walk/hike around vineyards in the world , tumbling down steep mountainsides traversing along the largest glacier valley in Europe on a path that stretches 65 kms between Branson near Martigny to Leuk in the Haut Valais.
This can be traversed Via , Bike , Car or on foot and there are trails for either , plus a mountain bike tracks also, in true swiss style , easy to use, functionally and efficient.
If you’re on the look out for natural wine , you will be disappointed , there’s not much of it about , there are however a few biodynamic producers, but still a very small percentage of total production in the Valais. Most of the winemakers will add some sulphates , otherwise a very fine standard of Biodynamic farming.
The High Natural amphitheater fully vineyard. Shared by numerous vinergnons giving grapes at all sides different characteristics and picking times due to exposure.
The first part of the trail starts in Branson , a lovely little village at the start of the chemin du Vignoble , there are a couple of lovely little caves here with a millscule production.
The next stop in Fully in which the Petite Arvine grape is revered , Petite Arvine has a reputation as a high-class grape variety, and is seen as the best white wine or the most famous in the Valais grown in the region since 1600 and home to one off if not the most famous of all vine in Switzerland Marie Therese Chappaz.
It may be difficult to book an appointment to have a tasting there as all her wines are allocated. Worth trying to find her wines if you can , you may find some at folterres in Branson.
A picnic table nestled under a chestnut tree on the fringes of behind the Belle Usine in Fully. A great spot for a picnic
