Welcome to the Manchester of France

Mulhouse, Alsace ,France , The destination for one of the largest natural wine fairs in Europe

Mulhouse, Alsace ,France , The destination for one of the largest natural wine fairs in Europe ,the last big one of the year , and one of the best. Organised by the same mob as salon du vin libres , not just for it’s natural wines but also for it’s aesthetics and artist appeal , Set in a pre war industrial area of cotton and textiles mills set in a dystopian grid system that you could imagine german paneers rolling down the wide cobbled streets , the streets still lined with train tracks for ease of transportation. I love urban decay ..They call it the Manchester of France , as it was France’s main cotton industry as was manchester’s a town of just over 100,000 people , Manchester over a million during the industrial revolution reminded me a lot of my home town ..same size lots of abandoned mills and factories..quite and artist place now..The Venue Motoco is the star of the show , and old cotton mill that’s has been converted to an events space , a large industrial hall with 3 halls , huge windows that let the light flood in , essential for weavers to operate all those years ago , you can feel the history stepping out of the brickwork.

The gang at Motoco have done a great job in the artistic layout of the venue with huge hand painted abat-jours . and well spaced out with Book Sellers , Coffee and beer stalls and second hand retro clothing stalls swell or course 90 plus wine , cider and sake stands. a large outdoor area where the food stalls and trucks are , always superb.

The place was absolutely packed , seems to be the best way for winemakers to sell , promote their wines , and i for one think its fab , saves a lot of time and expense not to mention the environmental foot print of traipsing through Europe to visit individual wine makers , this is ok if your going to be buying a shit load off wine but really ..this is the future ..

Stunning Ciders from Pomologik / Sweden based in Strängnäs, Sweden , Working as a coop where locals bring wild apples to be pressed.
