Bodega Murga
Valle de Pisco - Peru
Bodega Murga, nestled in the picturesque Pisco Valley, embodies a commitment to revitalizing traditional grape cultivation techniques and crafting exceptional pure grape brandy, known as Pisco. Our journey began with a casual conversation among friends turned partners in 2014, leading to the realization of our viticultural vision. Planting our initial hectares, including Albilla, Italia, Negra Criolla, and Quebranta vines, on the historic Fundo Murga, rooted in an 18th-century legacy.
Located in the district of Humay, the Pisco Valley, once called the Chunchanga Valley, lies approximately 25 kilometers inland from the sea. Bordered by a pre-mountain range to the north and the Villacurí desert dunes to the south, the valley is nourished by the Pisco River, originating in Huaytará and flowing past the former Caucato Hacienda towards the city of Pisco. Cultivation in this ancient valley dates back centuries.
Formed during the Early Horizon era, the Pisco region flourished with the Paracas culture. Subsequently, the Wari civilization thrived between the 8th and 11th centuries, known for its skilled pottery. Centuries later, the Incas established Tambo Colorado, a royal outpost along the Qapaq Ñan or Inca Road, linking Vilcashuamán to the coast. The valley's abundant birdlife inspired its pre-Hispanic inhabitants to name it Pisco.
