Maison Valette: A Legacy of Terroir and Passion

Maison Valette is the story of Cécile and Philippe Valette, a couple devoted to crafting exceptional Chardonnay in Burgundy. Philippe, a third-generation winemaker, took over part of his father Gérard’s vineyards in Mâcon-Chaintré, Pouilly-Fuissé, and Pouilly-Vinzelles, embracing a traditional, natural approach to viticulture.

In 1992, Philippe left the cooperative cellar, rejecting chemical treatments in favor of organic farming before it became widely recognized. Over time, Maison Valette moved toward minimal intervention, gradually reducing sulfur use until eliminating it completely in 2000—a bold decision requiring confidence in both the grapes and the process.

Pure Expressions of Terroir

Domaine Valette spans 15 hectares, practicing organic and biodynamic farming without certification. Their wines, aged extensively—some for over three years—develop exceptional complexity, setting them apart from many natural wine producers. From the approachable Mâcon-Village to the remarkable Clos de Monsieur Noly, their wines are sought after by collectors yet remain reasonably priced compared to Burgundy’s top crus.

Respect for the Land

The estate prioritizes soil health to ensure wines reflect their origin. Microbial life is nurtured through careful vineyard management, and grapes are harvested at peak ripeness. Hand-picked and gently pressed, the juice flows naturally into barrels, where it matures without sulfur or additives for up to twelve years before bottling, unfiltered and unfined.

Maison Valette embodies patience, respect, and a deep connection to nature. As Philippe puts it, the goal is to let nature take its course, ensuring that each bottle captures the essence of its vineyard.
