Alex & Maria Koppitsch – Natural Winemakers in Burgenland, Austria
Alex and Maria Koppitsch are a husband-and-wife team crafting vibrant natural wines in Neusiedl am See, Burgenland, Austria. Since taking over Alex's family winery in 2011, they have committed fully to biodynamic farming and low-intervention winemaking, continuing a family tradition that spans over 500 years.
🏡 Family Legacy & Philosophy
The Koppitsch family has been making wine for centuries. Alex and Maria continue this legacy by farming their 6.3 hectares of vineyards according to biodynamic principles. They do all vineyard and cellar work by hand, fostering a deep connection to nature and a respect for ecological balance.
🌿 Vineyards & Terroir
Their vineyards lie on the northeastern shores of Lake Neusiedl, on sandy soils that are remnants of an ancient riverbed. This unique microclimate and terroir lend their wines finesse, salinity, and freshness.
🍷 Winemaking Approach
In the cellar, they work with native yeasts and allow spontaneous fermentations without temperature control. All wines are unfiltered, unfined, and made with little or no added sulfites. Their philosophy is to let the grape and land speak clearly—no manipulation, no corrections.
🍇 Wine Ranges
They produce several cuvée lines:
Perspective Wines: More structured, complex wines for aging
Fun Wines: Light, juicy, easy-drinking bottles perfect for casual moments
Touch Wines: Elegant and tactile, focused on subtlety and texture
These wines are beloved in natural wine circles worldwide for their energy, clarity, and approachability.
