Matassa

Hailing from South Africa, Tom Lubbe chose the Catalan territory, specifically the town of Espira-de-l'Agly, to establish his Domaine Matassa. His viticultural education began in his homeland and continued under the mentorship of Gérard Gauby, a prominent figure in the Calce terroir.

In the years 2001 to 2003, Tom acquired 15 hectares of vineyards planted on extraordinary terroirs, reaching altitudes of up to 600 meters and spread across the landscapes between Calce and the Fenouillèdes heights.

Tom introduced a fresh and innovative perspective, prioritizing a distinct minerality in his cuvées, a departure from the region's usual preference for robust wines.

The outcome has been a resounding success, with Tom's wines displaying remarkable purity and liveliness while retaining complexity and depth.
