Max Sein Wein 〰️

Max Sein Wein is the natural wine label of Max Baumann, a winemaker based in Dertingen, Baden, Germany, near the Main River. Operating on 3.5 hectares of family-owned, organically farmed land, Baumann produces minimal-intervention wines from grapes like Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Gewürztraminer, Kerner, Ortega, Bacchus, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling). His philosophy, “as little as possible, as much as necessary,” reflects a low-tech approach, with no added sulfites, filtration, or clarification. After training at renowned natural wineries like Gut Oggau and Judith Beck, Baumann released his first vintage in 2016. His wines, often cuvée blends, are aged 9–10 months in old barrels and 6 months in bottles, resulting in approachable yet complex profiles.

Key Wines:

  • Blanc: A blend of Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, and Silvaner; light, aromatic, with pear, apple, and smoky notes.

  • Rouge: Made from Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir; juicy, with berry and spice notes.

  • Les Autochtones: Silvaner-based, elegant, with minerality and a clean finish.

  • Rosé: Crafted from Pinot Meunier, vibrant and refreshing.

  • Le Rouge Nu: A Schwarzriesling and Pinot Noir blend, complex with long elevage.

  • NB: From 45-year-old Neuenberg vines, a unique single-barrel wine.

  • Pét-Nat: A Riesling and Pinot Blanc sparkling wine, yeasty with quince and yellow fruit notes, comparable to Alsace Crémant.
