What to Expect
From waterfront saunas to underground cellars, Copenhagen's wine scene champions minimal intervention, sustainable imports, and that distinctive Danish hygge.
Indre By (City Centre)
The OG of Copenhagen's natural wine scene. White-painted wooden walls, vintage Scandinavian furniture, and an incredible selection including Gut Oggau, Heinrich, Loimer, Christian Tschida, and Matassa. Wednesday tastings and "Monday food" events with guest chefs. In summer, take your glass down to the canal pier.
Located in a basement near Nyhavn with a waterfront patio overlooking Christianshavn. Run by the legendary Rosforth & Rosforth import team (they sail wine from France engineless!). Pick your bottle from the cellar yourself. Natural wine pioneers—Pontus Elofsson literally wrote the book on natural wine while at Noma. Local hangout for Noma staff including René Redzepi.
Copenhagen's most colorful wine bar—walls painted in vibrant royal blue (a nod to the former paint shop tenant). From the Ved Stranden 10 team, focusing exclusively on Austrian natural wines from small independent producers. Served in Zalto glasses with an Østerreich wine shop next door. Quintessential Scandinavian vibes near Kastellet.
Descending into this atmospheric cellar feels like discovering a secret—bluesy jazz, candlelight flickering off brick walls, and ~100 wines open at all times. Predominantly biodynamic with classic French, Spanish, and Italian rustic dishes. Private dining rooms available including "Under Gulvet" (Under the Floor), a raw theater space for up to 50 guests. Run by Niels Thyge with 25 years wine experience.
Marco and Davide opened this Italian gem during the pandemic and it's become a local favorite. Only 16 seats, so book ahead. Mediterranean-focused list with Italian bias—organized by style ("light & fresh," "light & juicy") rather than region. Friday and Saturday feature more substantial bar food. Caught the attention of Denmark's notorious food critic Søren Frank within months. Warm, professional hospitality.
An Italian enoteca with open kitchen concept—watch the chef prepare rigatoni with 'nduja or octopus risotto while you sip. The legendary lemon tart has become something of a cult favorite. No printed wine list; the bartenders guide you through natural selections based on your taste. Small sharing plates designed for 3-4 dishes per person. Casual, intimate, and unpretentious despite the quality.
Vesterbro
The name refers to méthode ancestrale (naturally sparkling wine), but you'll find every type here. Pescetarian neighborhood restaurant with simple, seasonal cooking. Winner of Best Short List of the Year Denmark 2025. Choose from à la carte or a five-course menu at generous prices. Sommelier Johann Duedahl Jacobsen caters to "wine nerds" with a focused, rotating selection of natural and orange wines.
Nørrebro
"Tipsy" in French—and you'll get there with Copenhagen's largest natural wine selection. Owner Martin Ho's cellar holds thousands of rare bottles (entire Gut Oggau family, boxes of Tschida, Bini collection). Only 10% of stock is on display—ask to see the cellar. Cozy basement shop with bistro seating on the street. Next door to Poulette (fried chicken sandwiches) for the perfect pairing.
Solfinn Danielsen's legendary shop—"wine with an attitude." By day, a tiny boutique with a round table for tastings; by night, a candlelit speakeasy bar two doors down. Specializes in natural wines and root vegetables (rødder). Solfinn has written books on natural wine and hosts pop-up events. "Find good wine and share it with good people" is the mission. Iconic Copenhagen natural wine destination since 2015.
As the name suggests, a focus on terroir from Serbia to Chile. Located on the gourmet street Jægersborggade with their own import of small production wines. Charcuterie, cold and hot dishes available. The bar represents the social aspect of wine—bringing people together. Monthly wine club and quizzes. A youthful, loving atmosphere with hip-hop playing and swan lake views nearby.
Refshaleøen
A beachy oasis in an old boathouse—"dip, eat, repeat." Swim in the harbor (designated swimming zone), warm up in the wood-fired sauna, then enjoy Italian-inspired organic food and natural wines by the water. 16-seat walk-in restaurant with daily changing dishes. Sustainable pescetarian menu (no meat, only fish/veg). Former shipyard area now buzzing with creatives. Take bus 9A or bike to get there—worth the trip.
