Edinburgh Natural Wine Bars
Natural Wine Bars Edinburgh
Scotland's capital is having a natural wine moment—discover the best spots for organic, biodynamic & low-intervention wines
What to Expect
From Leith to the West End, Edinburgh's wine scene has shifted from traditional French cellars to vibrant natural wine bars championing small producers and minimal intervention.
Leith & The Shore
The beating heart of Edinburgh's natural wine scene. Matt Jackson's Michelin-recommended bar and bottle shop focuses entirely on naturally made wines, with a seasonal menu featuring Scottish produce. Sister café Ante in the basement serves brunch and excellent coffee. Sustainable Wine List of the Year UK 2025.
Edinburgh's first wine cafe, located in a former art gallery on The Shore. Open 7 days from early til late, serving breakfast through dinner with a predominantly biodynamic, organic & natural wine list. Think huevos rancheros and shakshuka by day, Mediterranean small plates by night.
New Town & Stockbridge
The OG of Edinburgh's natural wine scene. Graeme Sutherland's wine cellar and cafe below Kweilin Cantonese restaurant offers everything from stately Bordeaux to "half-crazed rural vignerons with massive moustaches." Thursday nights feature special old bottles at cost price (#finewinethursday). Also offers monthly wine club subscriptions.
A cheese lover's paradise with over 100 international bottles to drink in. Monthly rotating wine and cheese flights, plus magnums opened every Friday. The menu is wonderfully cheese-centric—boards, grilled cheese sandwiches, and burrata plates. Now with two locations (Stockbridge and Portobello).
A family-run wine cafe at the bottom of Dundas Street with sleek, art gallery-like interiors. Extensive Italian list with selections from Slovenia, Spain and Chile. Features independent producers, many of whom you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere in Edinburgh. Perfect after a day of gallery-hopping.
Old Town
A classy Italian enoteca tucked away on atmospheric Cockburn Street, mere steps from the Castle. The comprehensive wine list is divided by styles rather than countries, with big hitters at surprisingly affordable prices. A favorite amongst visiting winemakers and locals alike. Ask about the wine of the month and daily food specials.
West End
Co-owner James Snowdon (ex-Hotel du Vin, Bubbledogs) has created one of the UK's top wine lists for a restaurant of this size. The menu changes daily according to seasonal Scottish produce, with a bakery onsite for fresh bread and pastries. Open from 9am for coffee, then lunch and dinner. Dog-friendly and adds £1 to each bill for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
An independent wine bar championing award-winning wines from small-scale, independent winemakers. Carefully selected organic and hand-crafted varieties with a focus on distinctive styles. Chef Azim serves globally-inspired small plates perfect for sharing. Regular wine tasting events and a welcoming community vibe.
Occupying a former Polish church with many period features intact, this French-focused wine bar offers over 100 well-priced bottles from the Loire to the New World. Wine flights available and regular tasting events. The vaulted interior and stained glass create a unique atmosphere for wine drinking.
Southside & Marchmont
"Nothing added, nothing taken away" is the philosophy at this laid-back neighbourhood spot celebrating natural winemaking. An ever-rotating list of wines by the glass or bottle, complemented by cheese, charcuterie, and snacks. The antithesis of stuffy wine bars—relaxed, welcoming, and open late.
One of Edinburgh's only restaurants serving exclusively natural wine. The modern Chinese menu changes frequently and is designed to pair with their curated list featuring orange wines, skin-contact whites, and chilled reds. Expect the unexpected—from Leicestershire Solaris to Greek Assyrtiko blends.
Corstorphine
From Rory Sutherland (co-founder of Good Brothers), this neighbourhood bottle shop and bar focuses on lo-fi, organic and biodynamic wines. Located on the way to the airport, it attracts both locals and travelers. The short, ever-evolving list features natural wines with staff happy to tell the stories behind each bottle.
