Powicana Farm: Natural

A Family Tradition

At Powicana, wine is a family affair. The two sons design labels and help during harvest, even driving tractors. This shared lifestyle mirrors their holistic approach to farming and winemaking.

Sustainable Farming Practices

Powicana adheres to natural farming principles: no fertilizers, pesticides, or tilling, and all vines are dry-farmed. This approach enhances soil fertility, biodiversity, and grape health. Since 2013, the vineyard has been biodynamically farmed, achieving CCOF organic certification in 2015.

Terroir-Driven Winemaking

Specializing in Petite Sirah grapes, Powicana lets the vineyard's unique red clay loam soil and climate shape the wine. Eschewing additives and interventions, they craft wines that embody each vintage’s distinct personality. Their offerings include rosé, port, and Rhone-style reds, all made without sulfites or preservatives.

A Legacy of Natural Harmony

Named for the Pomo word "Powicana," meaning Red Clay Ridge, the vineyard is perched above Mendocino Lake. Inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka’s philosophies, Powicana embraces no-till, dry-farming practices, allowing the land to thrive naturally.
