Raphaël & Emelie
In the heart of Beaujolais, in Saint-Germain-en-Nuelles, Raphaël Beysang and Emelie Hurtubise are crafting some of the most exciting natural wines of the region. Their journey into winemaking was unconventional yet deeply immersive—Raphaël, originally from Alsace, trained with legends like Jean-Marc Dreyer and Vincent Marie, while Emelie honed her skills under Patrick Bouju in Auvergne.
Their domaine spans eight hectares of Gamay, cultivated with a hands-off approach. They rely on herbal teas to care for their vines and follow the same non-interventionist philosophy in the cellar. Their wines are fresh, vibrant, and made for sharing—highly drinkable, packed with crisp fruit, and often bottled in litre formats for convivial enjoyment.
Raphaël’s background in hospitality (his family ran a hotel and restaurant) led him to natural wine early on. He met Emelie while working with Auvergne's pioneers, and together, they started their Beaujolais adventure in 2017. Their work is meticulous, both in the vineyards—certified organic or in conversion—and in the cellar, where they vinify without additives, fining, or filtration. Their red wines undergo whole-bunch maceration for three weeks before aging in large wooden foudres, resulting in pure, sun-kissed expressions of Gamay.
As core members of "Team Sud Bojo," a collective of natural winemakers in southern Beaujolais, Raphaël and Emelie are shaping the region’s future. Their wines are already gaining a cult following, and with their dedication and energy, they are names to watch in the natural wine world.
