Domaine Dandelion - Pet Nat 2022
Domaine Dandelion, run by Christian Knott and Morgane Seuillot, is a unique and dedicated winery situated near the village of Meloisey, close to St Romain in France. They work with two hectares of old vines, which are spread across various small plots in the region. Their approach to winemaking is rooted in organic and biodynamic principles, emphasizing a natural and holistic connection with the land.
In their viticulture practices, Christian and Morgane follow organic farming methods, and they incorporate biodynamic practices into their work. One notable aspect of their vineyard management is the use of raw milk as an alternative to sulfur for treating the vines. They also refrain from using machinery in their vineyards, choosing to employ a horse for various tasks, which reflects their commitment to traditional and sustainable farming methods.
The grapes for their 2022 Pétillant Naturel (Pét Nat) wine come from a co-planted vineyard in the En Vaucurien parcel, located in the commune of Volnay. This particular parcel is situated high in the region, surrounded by pine forests, which can influence the character of the grapes and the resulting wine.
The 2022 Pét Nat from Domaine Dandelion is made from a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay. The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed directly, and the juice is fermented for 14 days. Importantly, this Pét Nat is bottled with no disgorgement, meaning the yeast sediment is not removed, giving the wine its characteristic effervescence. Furthermore, the wine is made with no additional additives or sulfur, reflecting a minimalist and natural winemaking approach.
