PAZ in the Faroe Islands Awarded Two Michelin Stars; Sommelier André Bekker Honored in Stockholm

TÓRSHAVN, FAROE ISLANDS / STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — The prestigious Michelin Guide has unveiled its latest selection, bringing exciting news to the culinary world. Headlining this year’s announcement is the striking debut of PAZ in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, which has entered the guide with an impressive Two Michelin Stars. Meanwhile, in Stockholm, André Bekker, Head Sommelier at Frantzén, has been recognized with a coveted Michelin Sommelier Award.

Located in the capital of the Faroe Islands, PAZ is the creation of acclaimed chef Poul Andrias Ziska, who returned to his homeland after a successful stint in Greenland. At PAZ, Ziska and his team offer an immersive and evocative dining experience, presenting finely crafted and highly personal dishes that draw deeply from the surrounding land and sea. The menu pays tribute to Faroese culinary traditions, with refined reinterpretations of local recipes that incorporate traditional techniques such as ræst—a distinctive fermentation method shaped by the islands’ cold, salty air.

The award marks a significant milestone not only for PAZ but for Faroese gastronomy as a whole, placing the Faroe Islands firmly on the global fine dining map.

Over in Stockholm, the Michelin Guide also celebrated excellence in wine and service with its Sommelier Award, given to André Bekker of Frantzén, currently ranked No. 35 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Originally from South Africa, Bekker’s journey in the world of wine began modestly but has since evolved into a distinguished career. His deep understanding of wine, combined with a remarkable ability to enhance the dining experience through expert pairings, has earned him recognition as one of the leading sommeliers in the world.

These honors underscore the continued evolution and diversity of the global culinary scene, from the remote, rugged landscapes of the Faroe Islands to the sophisticated urban tables of Stockholm.
