Christof Ruof 〰️
Christof Ruof is a natural winemaker based in Jenins, in the Graubünden region of Switzerland, known for producing distinctive Pinot Noir wines. Originally from a family of butchers, he became the first in his family to pursue winemaking, starting in 2012. He cultivates a small 0.2-hectare vineyard with Pinot Noir clones, inherited from his family, and works with minimal intervention, avoiding sulfur in some cuvées like his Mariafeld. His wines include a flagship Pinot Noir, a Weissherbst (rosé), and a Pét-Nat sparkling wine, noted for fresh, fruity profiles with flavors like strawberry and grapefruit. Ruof vinifies at his father-in-law Peter Hermann’s winery in Fläsch, emphasizing a minimalist, honest approach. His wines have gained attention for their precision and contribution to modernizing Graubünden’s winemaking image
Pinot Noir: His flagship wine, made from Pinot Noir clones in Jenins’ Mariafeld vineyard. It’s known for its fresh, precise style with vibrant fruit notes like cherry and raspberry, often with a light, elegant structure. Some cuvées, like the sulfur-free Mariafeld, showcase a pure, unfiltered expression of the grape.
Weissherbst: A rosé-style wine made from Pinot Noir, offering crisp acidity and flavors of strawberry and red berries. It’s light and refreshing, aligning with his natural winemaking ethos.
Pét-Nat: A sparkling wine (pétillant naturel) with lively bubbles and bright fruit flavors, such as grapefruit and apple. It’s unfiltered, naturally fermented, and reflects Ruof’s hands-off approach, delivering a playful yet refined profile.
