C’est le Printemps 2023 – Dard & Ribo

Region: Crozes-Hermitage AOP, Northern Rhône, France
Grape: 100% Syrah from two organic parcels (1970 & 1996 plantings) in Mercurol/Mercurol‑La Grâce
Vintage: 2023 (early-release “spring” bottling)

🌱 Viticulture & Vinification

  • Hand-harvested from organically farmed Syrah vines

  • Whole-bunch fermentation in open concrete vats

  • Short vat aging followed by 4–5 months in vats/barrel for half the blend

  • Unfined, unfiltered, and bottled with no added sulfites—an authentic zero SO₂ natural wine style

🍓 Tasting Notes

  • Vibrant, red-fruited profile: raspberry, cherry, blackcurrant, violet, and pepper spice

  • Juicy and accessible, underpinned by fresh acidity and a lively saline-grainy finish

  • Finishes with a gentle grip and gentle tannins—pure, drink-now charm

🍽️ Food Pairing

Serve slightly chilled (14 °C). Ideal with charcuterie, grilled poultry, spring vegetables, goat cheese, or simply as an easy-going aperitif.

🌟 Why We Love It

“C’est le Printemps” captures the playful, fruit-forward ethos of Dard & Ribo, pioneers of sulphite-free natural Syrah. It’s the Rhône in springtime: fresh, fun, unpretentious, and deeply authentic ().

In Mercurol, nestled in the picturesque northern Rhône Valley, René-Jean Dard and François Ribo have been meticulously crafting exceptional wines since the 1980s. Their estate, gracing the landscapes of Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, and Hermitage, boasts vines rooted in granite soil, yielding outstanding reds and whites nurtured without chemical intervention. Revered for their fruity profiles, finesse, and remarkable aging potential, their wines enchant even the most discerning connoisseurs.

René-Jean Dard and François Ribo, both hailing from the Northern Rhône, crossed paths at the esteemed Lycée Viticole in Beaune during the early 1980s, where they shared classes with Jacques Néauport. Departing from the traditional methods of the Lapierre school, Dard and Ribo embarked on a distinctive journey when they founded their estate together in 1983. Their approach, eschewing carbonic maceration and refrigeration, marked a departure from convention. For over four decades, their unwavering dedication to innovative and unconventional practices has endured, even amidst the transformative tides of the international luxury wine market in the northern Rhône region.
